Archive Event: Going Once…

In December 2001, we hosted an auction at the Design Museum in London, with Christie’s Auctioneers in charge of the bidding.

“Going Once…” was a collaboration with twentytwentyone, borne out of a shared vision and philosophy towards design. Through a close association with talented designers and progressive manufacturers, we had an opportunity to develop an annual event that drew all parties together with the aim of helping others and raising awareness.

With all proceeds going to three lesser-known children’s charities (Children’s Hope Foundation, Sparks now Great Ormond Street, and Theodora Childrens Charity), we created a theme of health and happiness orientated towards children.

Our brief to manufacturers and designers focused on design incorporating health (like comfort, ergonomics and ecological consideration) and happiness (through colour and humour).

We encouraged unique designs of limited availability. The 39 lots were inspiring and offered a rare opportunity to access items like a limited edition signed lithograph by Ron Arad, and Il Piede by Gaetano Pesce for B & B Italia.
